The Philips EM430T Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope is equipped with a Noran Voyager III light element EDS system. It is also equipped with Gatan 622 TV camera to assist in focusing and astigmation adjustments. Gatan heating (up to 1000ºC) and cooling holders are available. Images are available in the magnification range 50x to 750,000x and EDS analysis is available for all elements Z=6 (carbon) and above.

TEM Sample preparation equipment available in B36 McNutt Hall includes:
Gatan Precision Ion Polishing System (PIPS)-precision ion polishing for TEM samples
Gatan Dimpler - rapid mechanical thinning of TEM samples
VCR Dimpler - precision mechanical thinning for TEM samples
Various Electropolish Units -rapid thinning of metallic TEM samples
Various Wafering and Wire Saws - sectioning of all types of materials
